ABOUT CSDVA
Community School of Digital and Visual Arts (CSDVA) is a public charter school serving students in grades K-8. Established in 1998, the school was initially approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education as part of the F.R.E.E. Board (Financial Reform in Excellence in Education). This board also granted charters to five other schools in Durham, Orange, and Alamance Counties. However, the F.R.E.E. Board disbanded in 2004, and the school’s charter was transferred to a newly formed non-profit corporation, Community School of Visual and Digital Arts.

CSDVA primarily serves minority students who are considered at-risk of academic failure based on federal and state criteria. Our student body comprises 95% African-American students and 5% Hispanic students. Approximately 85% of our student population falls into the economically disadvantaged category, which means they qualify for and receive either free or reduced-price lunches.

Over the past five years, our students have consistently demonstrated strong performance on the mandated NC End-of-Grade tests in Math, English Language Arts, and Science. This consistent achievement has earned our school the designation of a “School of Progress,” indicating that over 60% of our students continue to score at or above Achievement Level III.

CSDVA continues to serve students from Durham and surrounding counties with unwavering support from our dedicated teachers, administrators, parents, and the community. This support includes collaboration with major universities in Durham, the Durham Housing Authority, LINKS, and other social organizations. Our ongoing efforts, coupled with external support, will enable us to continue making significant progress in raising student achievement and providing the best possible education for our students.
